Persons With Disabilities
The Kahului Airport terminal services both arriving and departing flights to and from the U.S. mainland and major airports on the neighboring Hawaiian Islands. This terminal consists of two levels, with the entrance and exit to the terminal located on the ground (street) level. The ground level houses the ticket lobby area, used to process luggage through agricultural inspection (if destined to the U.S. Mainland), passenger check-in and security screening. Also, on this level are the baggage claim area, ground transportation, visitor information and a souvenir shop. Passengers access the second level of the terminal by either escalators or elevators. The second level houses the holding rooms and departure gates, as well as, retail shops, a newsstand, a restaurant/lounge, and a visitor information booth. Loading bridges are used to enplane and deplane all passengers.
The Department of Health Disability and Communication Access Board offers these tips for travelers with disabilities.
Upon request, airlines will provide assistance to passengers with special needs through their Skycap (porter) services. Skycaps affiliated with your airline can provide assistance with boarding and disembarking at your gate. The Skycaps have been trained to assist travelers with disabilities and provide wheelchairs at the check-in counter, gate or baggage claim area. Please advise your airline in advance to arrange for any special services to ensure assistance.
Taxi and Limousine Service
Taxicab and chauffeured limousine (pre-arranged) services are available (ground level) near the Baggage Claim area. Persons using collapsible chairs will be assisted by the drivers.
Each airline will provide information on specific procedures for storage of wheelchairs and wet-cell batteries.
There is elevator access to the second level departure/arrival and concession areas.
Accessible Airport Curbside Loading and Unloading
Accessible curbside loading and unloading zones are available for active loading and unloading only. Vehicles are not allowed to be left unattended.
Accessible Parking Spaces
Accessible parking spaces are available for placard holders. They are located near the terminal building and crosswalks in the public parking lot.
All of Kahului Airports restrooms include wide stalls and side grab bars for the mobility impaired. Currently, there are no family/unisex restrooms. However, we hope to have one constructed in the near future.
